The Patriots defeated Wm. Floyd 17-3 on a solid defensive effort resulting in only 11 shots faced by 3 goalkeepers. Melville coaches called on the entire squad today, gaining valuable game experience for the incoming 2001 team. Melville’s offensive power was well distributed with 13 players participating in 17 goals and 10 assists.The first qtr. featured 5 Melville players scoring 8 goals on 6 assists, while the first defensive unit of Ryan Kelaher , John Stebbins, Jay Rapisarda and Nick Gentilesco in goal, held Wm. Floyd scoreless.
Melville added 4 goals in the second qtr., 2 each by Matt Monfett (5 goals, 1 assist) and Billy Jautze (4 goals, 2 assists). Wm. Floyd scored once for a 12-1 score at half-time.
Seniors Shane Ferraro and Nick Miaritis (2 assists) dominated the face-offs gaining possession consistently for the Patriots.
The 3rd qtr. resulted in two goals by Melville, 1each by Junior Peter Kaspar and Rookie Sophomore Ryan Preuss, his first varsity goal. Wm. Floyd added 1 goal to bring the score to 14-2 at the end of three periods of play.
Melville’s Coaches involved the full squad in the 4th qtr. resulting on goals by Juniors Jordan Funt (1goal, 1 assist), Ryan Blaney and Billy Granger.
Today’s action included solid effort by Senior midfielder John Salvesen, rookie midfielder Mike Ward (1goal), rookie attackman Dave Schwartzberg (1goal, 2 assists), and a team inspiring hit late in the game by Senior midfielder Chris Rampone.
