WARD MELVILLE 17 LONGWOOD 1
MAY 11, 1999
Longwood's program is improving. Melville's team is preparing. It's the mirror of many football games between the two schools that usually belong to Longwood. The Melville team made very few errors today on their way to victory. We must give the Patriots credit for continuing to play solid lacrosse in the face of a mis-match. In a more ideal structure, these two teams would not play each other.
The coaches used many players today, adding different looks from the 2nd quarter onward. Some of the noteworthy play came from Chris Mele who worked the long stick with intensity and Matt Jungers with a nice goal. It was good to see Kevin Woods with some good stops along with Nick Gentilesco. Drew Casino at 6 for 6 on faceoffs and a goal; Chris Passavia scoring a hard earned goal; Preuss (6g,1a); Monfett (3g,2a), Cunningham (1g,2a), Mayer (2g), and Gerry (1g,1a). Will O'Dwyer, Shane Ferraro, Ian Applegate, Jarred Funt, Cleaver, Pohmer, Magro, Nick Belvedere and company all looked good. But one play stands out. Cole Ferraro, carrying the ball and literally being chopped down (no call) like a large tree (big guy) scores his goal as he falls to the turf (no worse for the wear). A good game from the whole squad.
Keep working hard. Go Patriots.
