WARD MELVILLE 17 LINDENHURST 5
MAY 21, 1999
Lindenhurst played well and have potential to improve a great deal if they focus on stick skills and the movement of the game. They have some talented athletes to work with, good luck to them in the future. As for Melville, they have played better than they did today. Still, not horrible for game 16. (Unenthusiastic comes to mind). There were good performances throughout the team even if it wasn't the consistency we're used to.
The Patriots got off to a slow start and moved through the first quarter and most of the second without much team spark. Willy Passavia (2g) started things off with a rocket on the run. After a 3-1 first quarter they came to life scoring five goals for an 8-2 half time lead. Monfett to Preuss, Preuss (2g,3a) to Monfett (sound familiar? sounds great! Matty Mo' with 5 and 3 on the day), Morgan with 2 and 2...all of these goals were executed with precision and were great to watch. With the lines mixing and the dust flying (rocks, glass, and plenty of dirt too) the Patriots added 3 more in the third and 6 more in the fourth. More nice work creating great goals from Kurt Gerry... whipping his shot through a peep hole, Will O'Dwyer converting in one motion, Cleaver, Cunningham, Jungers, and Cole Ferraro working a strong drive. Kunkel played well and with good anticipation on the outlets that set the offense. Nick Gentilesco carried over the line to set up a score when Lindenhurst left him unattended. The midfield did a workmanlike job without much of their usual excitement. The defense again played very well with good performances across the board from Ryan Kelaher, Nick Belvedere, Bryan Mendez, Mike Carolan, and Chris Mele. Chris Passavia added an assist on one of his clears to compliment a good day of work. The 'D' men scattered 3 more against to finish the last regular season game with a 17-5 win and a 16-0 record.
Now they prepare for the playoffs. The action resumes thursday May 27th at Melville for second round competition. Stay tuned for information.
Keep working hard. Go Patriots!!!
