WARD MELVILLE 14      LINDENHURST 8

Patriots Get Win #8 with 14 – 8 Victory over   Lindenhurst !!!

In what has become the trend for the 2002 season, the Patriots again needed to overcome a slow first quarter before getting in the groove to outpace the Bulldogs of Lindenhurst at the Kelhum Street school on a cloudy rain threatening Saturday in Lindenhurst. The game time was listed on the Patriots schedule as 10:00 a.m. The Patriots parents and fans thought they had missed most of the first quarter when everyone had a hard time finding the Kelhum Steet school only to find just the Bulldogs at the field warming up at 10:30 . Even the Patriots team bus got lost. All was well when it was discovered the game time was really set for 11:00 a.m.

Lindenhurst scored the games first two goals even though WM controlled the faceoffs. Senior attackman Jon Matsui got the Patriots on the board with two consecutive scores, one assisted from senior midfielder Joe Higgins. The Bulldogs hit for one more to end the first quarter at 3 – 2. Melville down 1. One of these games, we’re going to win the first quarter.

Following suit to the season trend, the Patriots picked up the effort in the 2nd and 3rd quarter, and junior attackman David Schwartzberg unloaded for 3 of his 6 goals on the day in the 2nd quarter. Senior attackman Peter Kasper and junior midfielder Ryan Preuss added two more in the second period. Preuss netted a hard shot after a coast-to-coast run with ball.  The 1st half ended WM 7 Lindenhurst 5.

The 3rd quarter (our best quarter in the games thus far) started with the skies opening up and the Patriots widened the lead with Schwartzberg hitting on 2 more of his 6, and junior middie Michael Ward scoring on a nice feed from senior attackman Billy Granger. End 3rd quarter WM 10 Lindenhurst 6.

In the 4th quarter, Ryan Preuss scored two more of his 3 on the day, assisted by Granger and senior midfielder John Keysor. Schwartzberg hit on his 6th and then Keysor scored the Patriots final goal. The game was called with :45 seconds to play as lightening threatened the field of play and the players and Patriots fans were soaked from the rain.

Final WM 14 Lindenhurst 8.  Glad to be heading back to E. Setauket after the 8th win of the 2002 season.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PATRIOTS ON WIN #8!!!!!!!!
