The Patriots got off to a bit of a slow start with three turnovers on their first three possessions, but finally got their first goal at the 05:10 mark in the 1^st when junior attackman David Schwartzberg found the net set up by senior attackman Peter Kasper who had beaten his defender. Within the next 25 seconds, senior midfielder Ryan Blaney scored his first goal of the season with an assist from senior middie Jordan Funt. Senior attackman Jon Matsui scored the next two for Melville, one assisted by junior midfielder Ryan Preuss. Then Preuss scored at 03:19 left in the 1^st quarter assisted by junior midfielder Mike Ward. Last goal of the period by junior attackman Dave Schwartzberg fed by senior Jordan Funt and the Patriots took control of the game. End 1^st quarter score

WM 6 Connetquot 0.

The 2^nd quarter started with senior long pole Kevin Sullivan getting his first goal of the season with a feed from Kasper. Kasper scored next with pass from Schwartzberg. Kasper then assisted on a pass from the top of the box to Matsui. Preuss waas next when he scored on an assist from senior middie Eddie Rogan. A man up goal by Schwartzberg set up by senior midfielder John Keysor ended the 1^st half with the Patriots comfortably up 11 – 0. Most of the first half of play was in Melville’s offensive end of the field.

The 2^nd half started with Melville given man up possession from a Connetquot penalty at the end of the first half, and Jordan Funt made good on a missed clear by the T-Birds goalie when he scored unassisted. Next it was Keysor to Matsui, then Keysor to Pete Kasper. Score now 14 – 0. A man up goal Schwartzberg to Matsui. Junior goaltender Shane Brennan takes over in the cage for the Patriots. Senior midfielder Joe Higgins scores his first goal of the season when he fires a bullet from the top of the box at :40 seconds left to end the third quarter at WM 16 Connetquot 0. A one-sided game.  

The 4^th quarter showcased many players on the Patriots roster. Junior defenseman Greg Holownia fought for a ground ball and junior attackman Andrew Vorwald found the back of the net. Junior midfielder Mike Gubista picked up a loose ball, dished to Vorwald who found junior attackman Gregory Weisman for the next WM goal. The second and third lines for the Patriots played an excellent 2^nd half. Shane Brennan was outstanding in goal making multiple saves. Senior attackman Billy Granger made a beautiful behind-the-back pass to Vorwald who finished with WM’s 19^th goal. Junior goalie Justin Arini subs in at goal with some key saves, and junior midfielder Bryan Gray hits the final goal for the day with an assist from Vorwald. Final score WM 20 Connetquot 1.

If you noticed no mention of defense was because most of the game was played on Melville’s offensive end of the field. It was great team effort and the back up players were outstanding for the Patriots.

WM plays Northport on Thurs May 02, 4:00 p.m. at the away Tigers field. A HUGE game of two Suffolk County H.S. Lax powers. Both teams undefeated going in.
