MAY 18, 2000 THURSDAY 4:00 PM

Threatening weather was off in the distance while a strong wind blew across the Backfield for the last regular season home game for the Patriots 2000 and the senior class.  The grass was cut low and the traction was good, but offense was slipping anyway. A fairly disinterested Melville team took the field to commence the game. The offended coaching staff began to make changes that showed their own 'weather pattern' brewing on the sidelines. By the end of the break at half time, a more 'inspired' Patriot team began to play. 
Melville was down 0-1 at the end of the first. Up 3-1 at the half on garbage goals, with missed opportunities along the way. (Heads up plays, but you know the story). To their credit, the defense played well throughout the game, with Chris Passavia terrorizing anyone near him, Ryan Kellaher grabbing ground balls with a 'magnetic' stick, Nicky B keeping everyone in check, and Chris Mele relentless and successful. The short sticks did their job, keeping track and checking well while Nick G stopped a few.

The Pats came out with a vengeance in the second half, playing hard and finishing their opportunities. Matty Mo and Drew Casino combined for the first eight goals of the contest on their way to a 6 and 1; and 5 and 1 performances respectively (Biggest point day ever for DC) 
Since letting up the first goal the Pats reeled off 16 unanswered goals, including some pretty ones from Nick Miaritis, Jordan Funt, and a sweet man-up by Billy Jautze from Funt. 

The team will enjoy a much needed break to mend some injuries and make some plans for their first game of the post season next friday. 
Playoffs are always a great time of year and exciting for everyone. Its time to play hard from the first faceoff. They showed us something special when they took the field in the Rutgers Round Robin. There has been alot of lacrosse since then and these guys are ready to go. Bring it on! One game at a time!
